Women's Mixer, 18:20-20:00, Poincaré Chinatown
We are excited to announce our MicroTAS 2024 evening event for women in MicroTAS, to provide vital peer-to-peer mentorship and a networking opportunity. Our goal is to connect women in academia and industry (faculty members, early career investigators holding independent positions in academia, scientists and engineers in industry), and to catalyze conversation around topics of shared interest. Graduate students and postdocs are kindly asked to make use of other organized networking activities. This event is open to those who identify as women, and their allies.
Have you ever wanted to discuss with peers about:
- Family and work balance
- Promotion and tenure
- Managing a research group or a team
- Finding leadership opportunities and choosing them strategically
- How to handle tricky situations?
The event will have a casual format, where there are tables with a topic assigned to each, and those who are interested can gather at the associated table to discuss. Attendees can rotate among tables. Join us to meet other attendees and to network.
Location:
Poincaré Chinatown
1071 St Laurent Blvd 2e étage
Montreal, Quebec H2Z 1J6

Wednesday Lunch
Are you already in or interested in starting a company trying to productize and commercialize a microfluidic invention? If so, come to this workshop on Wednesday afternoon at MicroTAS - be sure to
register here as soon as possible, as space is limited.
At the workshop, Mark Gilligan will give his insights. Mark was the founder and 22-year-long CEO of Blacktrace Holdings Ltd, which included companies like Syrris, Dolomite Microfluidics, Dolomite Bio, and Particle Works (among others). In that time Mark's companies productized and commercialized Microfluidic inventions in many fields and broke new scientific ground at time. Mark was also on the editorial board of Lab on a Chip for 7 years, so has seen the field from all sides.
Mark sold Blacktrace in Jul 2023 and since has been working with a wide range of companies:
- Helping companies to raise money
- Helping distressed companies
- Helping companies to develop technologies and products much more cost effectively
Come and see what Mark has to say and come armed with your questions on how to succeed!
